Kendrick Lamar Goes Back To School
Even though Kendrick Lamar has made a name for himself he doesn’t forget the road he traveled to get where he is today. Believe it or not it is just 11 miles from Compton, California to the red carpet of the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Earlier this week Lamar made the journey along with a few important guests.
With help from Reebok Classics, the multi-award-winning musician hosted six students from Centennial High School in his hometown, and source of inspiration, Compton. Lamar was the most nominated hip-hop artist at the night’s ceremony, but it was his moments with the students beforehand that really set him apart.
“Seeing them out here reminds me of where you come from,” Lamar says. “They’re full of energy. The same as I was.”
As one of Compton’s most celebrated sons, Lamar often draws creativity from his hometown and doesn’t shy away from using the city as the muse for his lyrics. But it was Lamar’s once-in-a-generation work To Pimp a Butterfly that inspired Compton instead earlier that tonight.
The students’ symbolic journey from Compton to Los Angeles was capped off with several epic surprises. In addition to meeting the iconic rapper, the students were able to express their own creativity for Lamar.
With nothing more than a pair of Lamar’s favorite Classic Leather shoes and a black marker, the students created works of art on the pristine leather and gave the decorated shoes, along with their own words of congratulations, to the rapper before the ceremony.
The simple gesture spoke volumes in light of the glitz and glamour of pop music royalty that gathered in Los Angeles last night. While many were focused on award counts and performance details, Lamar practiced a raw exchange of respect and reverence with the students he inspired.
“Hopefully in the next 10 years, they’ll be even further from where I’m at,” Lamar explains.
Unpretentious and unapologetic, the Classic Leather shoe symbolizes the blank canvas offered to all of us in life. The style, the swagger and the story are what we make of it.

The Reebok Classic Club C originally launched in 1985 as a tennis sneaker, but quickly became adopted as an essential fashion staple due to its sleek, timeless silhouette. The highly coveted shoe returns for Spring/Summer 2016 as the Court franchise re-launches with the NPC, NPC UK and introduces a casual apparel range of heritage inspired pieces, for a collection that combines classic design with contemporary execution.

Bartoli Style, highly coveted stylists to the stars, match the deep red and blue kicks with sleek black leather trousers, skinny jeans, and oversized Reebok Classic logo tees for a chic spin on the collection. Marcus Troy and Naskademini, creative directors and lifestyle influencers, cut a bright stylized look in varsity inspired tracksuits and stand-out tees for a contemporary twist on the typically paired-back Court aesthetic.

Reebok Has The Prototype For A Fantastic Classic
2016 marks the official 20 year anniversary since Reebok and Allen Iverson first teamed up to release what has become one of the most iconic, on-court basketball sneakers of all time: The Question Mid.
To celebrate this incredible milestone, there will be 20 unique launches of the Question Mid throughout 2016 to commemorate Allen Iverson and the undeniable cultural impact he has had on basketball as well as culture in general.
Even before he stepped foot onto a professional basketball court, Reebok knew there would never be another Allen Iverson. Determined to sign the once-in-a-lifetime player, Reebok actually designed a version of Allen’s first signature shoe while he was still in college. It was called The Prototype, and it was the first canvas upon which Reebok first dreamed “what-if”.
Allen never wore the Prototype on court, but the shoe had only minor changes to the design before it became the first version of the Question Mid. The hi-cut Prototype features Reebok’s revolutionary Hexalite technology and unique “?” branding on the back tab, which represents all the questions surrounding his career and whether Allen would eventually go pro. Of course, Allen Iverson being the “Answer” to the “Question” showed all his critics wrong.
The Reebok Question “Prototype” will be available on Friday, February 5th for $200 at Reebok.com, Packer Shoes and Concepts.
