RYZ H-G3 Shoe Giveaway
I’m a sneaker guy. I don’t like fancy shoes. They’re just not for me. Sure, I got some nice shoes for weddings and funerals and such, but I don’t break those out unless I absolutely have to. If I have the option to choose comfort over class, comfy shoes win every time. Even if I’m semi-dressed up, there’s a good chance I’ll complete my look with a pair of Sauconys.
RYZ knows this. They know that most guys prefer sneakers over dress shoes. RYZ’s aim is to provide guys with a satisfying middle ground – a combination of comfort and class, sophistication and relaxation.
RYZ was founded in 2008 by Rob Langstaff, the former president of Adidas USA and Japan. Langstaff is a former Captain in the US Air Force and an avid runner (he once held the record for the 1500 meters at the Air Force Academy). Langstaff started working at Adidas back in 1991, so he knows a thing or two about shoes. He speaks English, German and Japanese, and he believes in a open source, democratic take on design. Along with input from consumers, Langstaff paired up with Creative Director Todd Alan Breland to blend athletic footwear with a more refined sense of style.
“We designed a shoe that you could where with a suit and not look like a dork,” Langstaff said when describing the H-G3. That pretty much sums up it up. If you can maintain a sporty mindset while still pulling off a touch of class, you’d do it in a heartbeat. And if you could use a side zipper to get the shoe on in like 10 seconds, that’s just an added bonus.

AXE Buzzed Look Cream + SPF 15 and the Wounded Warrior Project
Summertime is here, so it’s time to cut that friggin’ mop, bro. You don’t want to enter the beach season with overly floppy hair. Trim that top proper for the warm months ahead. Plus, studies show that chicks dig the buzz cut. Seriously. Based on a national survey conducted by StrategyOne earlier this year, three out of every four girls say they’re more likely to run their hands through a buzz cut because they like the soft feel of the buzz.
But the buzz cut can also lead to too much sun exposure and scalp sunburns. If red, peeling scalp isn’t the look you’re going for, check out AXE Buzzed Cream + SPF 15. The cream gives your buzz some style while protecting it from the sun’s rays.
As part of the product launch efforts, AXE donated $50,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. This non-profit organization supports troops that are injured in the line of the duty. Lo Bosworth was on hand at the AXE Lounge in Southampton, New York to show her support for the Wounded Warrior Project. If you want to support buzz cuts and a good cause, just head over to the AXE Facebook page and give ‘em a thumbs up.

Belkin Slim Folio iPad 2 Stand Review
If you’re going to drop the cash for an iPad 2, you need to pick up something to protect that investment. There are plenty of iPad 2 cases on the market. You’ll find cases that provide extra style points and cases that focus on max protection. Functionality is crucial as well. If you got the looks and the protection, but you can’t maneuver your fancy tablet, what’s the point, right?
We recently received a Belkin Slim Folio iPad 2 case to review, and we tested the thing out for a couple weeks. If you’re trying to make a fashion statement with your iPad case, the Belkin Slim Folio probably isn’t your number one option. It’s not ugly or anything, but it’s not going to turn any heads, either. It will, however, offer you great protection against scuffs and scratches and a whole lot of functionality.
The slim fit and soft material provide extra durability without adding a ton of weight. The clip-on case that you get from Apple will give you front screen protection, but that’s about it. The Belkin Slim Folio shields your iPad completely. The squishy material is soft to the touch, but still offers plenty of grip.
The case comes with an attached strap that you can use to keep the front cover closed. This strap can also double as a hand holding slip. When holding your iPad, you just flip the cover over and place your hand inside the strap for easy viewing. The Slim Folio also has multiple viewing positions. You can situate the case for easy typing or stand it up at different viewing angles.
The one complaint we have with the case is that the cut outs for the camera lens, headphone jack, volume meter and power button seem to be just slightly off a bit. Just a tad. You can still access each of these areas with ease, but the extra snug fit of the Slim Folio case makes it difficult to align these access areas precisely with the case itself.
Again, if you’re going for maximum style points, the Belkin Slim Folio Stand won’t be your top option. If you just want a soft, lightweight cover that offers complete protection with smart, functional viewing options, the Slim Folio is a nice package for $39.99.

Ogio Layover Bag Review
Traveling can be a big hassle for anyone, especially if you have crappy luggage. Making a solid, long term investment in travel bags usually isn’t a top priority for most folks. I mean, how often do you travel anyway? You can probably get by with the $20 rolling suitcase you picked up at Ross, right?
Well the thing is, crappy travel bags don’t reveal themselves right away. You’ll be on like three or four trips before disaster strikes. But when your cheap bag goes, it goes bad quick. A busted wheel. A broken zipper. It could be a simple, how-the-hell-did-that happen rip, but before the end of your trip, you’ll be cursing the fact that you took such a low budget approach to your travel needs.
We’ve all been there. So when Ogio offered to send us a travel bag for review, we accepted gladly. I’ve had some pretty sorry luggage in my day, so I was curious to see what these guys had to offer. Ogio sent us one of their Layover travel bags, and we tested the thing out.
The first thing you notice is that the bag looks like it’d be in the closet of a BMX biker or professional Moto racer or something. There’s a reason for this. Here’s what Mark Kuryak, Vice President Global Action/Performance/Sport had to say:
“OGIO’s designs are inspired from the various sports that we actively participate. We seek the input of our athletes so that can design uniquely styled collections that are both rugged and intelligently designed with features that help them in their lifestyle. The layover is a prime example. While it is part of our travel collection,” Kuryak said, “the styling of this bag comes from our roots in Moto.”
We looked up this connection. It turns out that Ogio produced a motocross film called Global Addiction in 2002 that featured some of the biggest names in freestyle MX like Travis Pastrana, who continues to work with the brand. Ogio produces high performance bag gear for a variety of uses. When designing these gear bags, the company gets a ton of input from top athletes in moto, BMX, skate, snow and surf.
“Most of all our bag features and unique styling comes from our top athlete input,” Kuryak said. “They use OGIO products on daily basis thru toughest conditions which is our best testing ground for superior quality and inspiration for new features and designs.”
That input is evident when you put the Layover bag to the test. The thing just looks rugged and sporty, and those wheels aren’t going to crap out on you while you’re running through the airport.
“The lines are fast and unique,” Kuryak explained. “The materials that we use are tough to stand up to the most grueling conditions, the sled and wheel system is a reflection of the SLED system of our acclaimed 9800 Moto Gear bag. And the organization compartments allow our athletes to stay in control of their travels while they are on the road.”
That SLED system is legit. The Layover bag has these gliding, urethane wheels that rest on a heavy duty chassis. It doesn’t matter what kind of terrain you need to drag this thing through, those wheels can power through anything.
“The SLED technology feature is on many of our top selling gear bags came right from our athletes,” Kurayk told us. “They wanted the most durable/heavy duty wheeled bag that would survive all rider conditions – practice, race day, and travel.”
That’s the main take away from this Ogio operation. They design their gear for extreme use, but it’s the everyday utility and surefire functionality that appeals to average consumers.
When asked about other athlete-inspired features, Kurayk mentioned all the compartments the bag has. These “intelligently designed compartments” were crafted for “organization of all gear – from helmets, gloves, goggles, lenses, apparel, and now neck brace compartments for easy access,” Kuryak said.
“Each pocket is specialized to protect their valuable equipment.”
So in addition to the sleek styling, you get extreme usability and convenient storage features. Not bad for a bag that retails for $189.99. You probably won’t need to pack for the X Games or some other extreme sports event, but if your bag can handle the needs of top extreme athletes, it’s going to work just fine for your weekend trip to Vegas.

AVS Gear Zippy BT-500 Compact Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard Review
Typing without a keyboard sucks. Whether you’re working on a smartphone with tactile keys like a Blackberry or a touch screen on an iPhone or iPad, typing anything at length can be a challenge when you’re working with small keys or sensitive touch pads. Add in a bad case of sausage fingers, and you can forget about typing anything over 50 to 100 words.
That’s why they make devices like the Zippy BT-500 Compact Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard from AVS Gear. This keyboard is deceptively efficient. It’s lightweight and tiny enough so you can lug it around easily. It weighs 320grams (with batteries) and it’s 225 mm long, 99 mm wide and 23.5 mm high. But despite its miniature form, it still feels sturdy. You feel like this thing can withstand a few drops on the ground and keep on ticking.
The keys occupy a small surface area, but they aren’t too close together and they actually have some decent resistance behind them. When you press the keys down, you can actually feel it, almost like an old school clicky keyboard. If you stroke the wrong key, you’ll now it right away. And you’re not going to accidently mistype O, P, K, comma, semicolon and period because you were targeting an “L.” Each key occupies its own clear space and the tactile give and take allows you to bang away at this thing with a pretty high degree of precision.
The Zippy BT-500 is a wireless device that utilizes Bluetooth 2.0 technology. It has a range of up to 10 meters, and you can connect the thing to up to six Bluetooth devices at once. The keyboard has a one-touch fast switch option that lets you cycle through different Bluetooth devices in seconds. It comes equipped with two AA batteries which should last the average user about two months.
If you’re an aggressive typist, you can pound the keys on this thing without thinking twice about it. There are little rubber stoppers on all four corners so you get some solid traction on whatever surface you type on. You can flip the switches in the back if you prefer some lean on your keyboard surface.
The Zippy BT-500 Compact Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard retails for $49.99. If you use your smartphone, iPad or other Bluetooth enabled device to type anything over 50-100 words, do yourself a favor and pick up the Zippy BT-500. It’s slightly bigger than your hand, but it’s a sturdy, compact package that’ll save you time and cure your smartphone sausage finger syndrome.

Time to Recycle All Your Old Cell Phones
If you’re like me, you probably have a pretty decent-sized collection of crappy old cell phones just sitting in some drawer at home all lonely-like. Whether it’s a late-90s Nokia or your very first flip phone, we’re all starting to amass out-of-date cell phone gear that we just can’t bring ourselves to throw away. With smartphones getting so much smarter all the time, the likelihood of you breaking out your old Zack Morris brick phone is slim-to-none. If you’re not gonna use that stuff, might as well get rid of it, right?
Well did you know that less than 10% of discarded phones in America get recycled? Most of these discarded phones just sit around unused or worse, they get tossed in landfills. So what should you do with those old phones you’ll never use again? We talked to Cat Schwartz, a leading tech expert, to get her take on recycling old cell phones. Here’s how the conversation went down:
CS: I have a lot of old cell phones lying around and I don’t really know what to do with them. Don’t want to throw them away. Don’t really want to just donate them or whatever. How do you go about recycling these things?
Cat: To me it’s just really interesting because when the iPhone story came out – that Verizon has a new iPhone – people started asking me “I’m going to make the switch but I can’t take my AT&T iPhone with me, what can I do with my iPhone? I don’t want to just put it in a drawer” which is where half the phones end up anyways.
So I started working with a couple companies and I found this company securetradein.com. You go to the website, enter in the make and model of the phone that you have, and then they give you a couple pictures to make sure it’s the right phone. Then they tell you how much they’ll give you for the phone, and you print out a FedEx shipping label that they give you and send it in. Then they send you a check.
CS: So they cover the shipping costs?
Cat: Yes, they cover the shipping costs. It’s cool because then you actually have some cash for the device. I can’t tell you how many phones I have in my drawer, but when I was doing research I realized I have like 8 cell phones because I upgrade once a year sometimes.
CS: Right.
Cat: So this is the best way to get something for it. You have to know a couple things going into the process to make sure it goes smoothly.
CS: So this isn’t just for smartphones, this can be for any old cell phone, correct?
Cat: Yeah absolutely. It can be for any phone. It’s great because I have an old Sidekick that I put in there and it was not a lot of money, like six bucks, but I’m like, you know, that’s six more dollars than I would have had before. It’s great.
So if you’re going to do this there’s a couple things you need to know going into it. First and foremost, if you’re going to trade your phone in, you want to get as much personal data off that phone as you possibly can. Or make sure that the company that you’re going to be trading your phone in with is 100% guaranteed to wipe everything off the phone. Take the SIM card out as well because often the SIM card will store data.
It’s a cool thing to do that I highly suggest. It’s an eco friendly thing to do at this point because phones should not end up in landfills. They have toxic chemicals in them that can hurt the environment and they need to be recycled properly so this is a way to get that done too.
CS: So you mentioned $6 for a Sidekick, I think I have an old Mitsubishi phone from like 2001 or something that I doubt will be useful to anybody.
Cat: Right. So if it’s totally not valuable they will recycle it for you. They’ll send you the free shipping label or you print out the free shipping label and they’ll recycle it for you at least. There are phones that are not worth anything, but you should recycle them and this is a really easy way to do that.
CS: Can you get additional cash for things like accessories, car chargers, that kind of stuff?
Cat: No, they don’t give you extra money for those things. But it is good if you have them because you want to recycle them with the phone because who needs another charger?
CS: So where do these phones end up after they get recycled?
Cat: Well after they get recycled they use some of the parts for scrap metal. I’m not totally sure where the end result of the recycled product goes, but products that are able to be salvaged are refurbished and resold or they’re donated to the troops or latchkey kids. There’s a bunch of different organizations that take the phones that aren’t quite great enough to sell, but that are definitely still useful and make phone calls.
CS: Is there a way that people can shop for phones that have been donated just to find a basic use cell phone for a cheap price?
Cat: Personally, I go to eBay. I worked for eBay for a long time. I don’t anymore, but I still highly recommend that as the place to go to buy used electronics. Refurbished electronics on eBay are the best deal you’re going to find. You just have to look at the details of the listing and make sure they have a good return policy and that other people are happy with the place you’re buying something from. But hands down they’ve got the best selection.
CS: For the secure trade in, are there any restrictions in terms of where you have to be located? Is this open to only the US?
Cat: All over the United States, anywhere in the United States. Anywhere that FedEx will ship to that’s where they extend to.
CS: So outside of cell phones I know that we collect a lot of discarded electronics. Are there other similar type programs that exist outside of just cell phones?
Cat: Absolutely. Securetradein.com is going to be expanding, but there are definitely other websites that are fantastic for this. You just need to find out how much the device is worth and then figure out whether to recycle it or get the bit of money that you can.

TwinLuxe Shaving Skincare Review
Guys are creatures of habits. This is especially true for our grooming product selections. Once we find something we like, we stick to it. For years at a time. Whether it’s a shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant or a particular razor, if it works we just keep on buying it.
At MANjr, we get to review a bunch of different grooming supplies for men. Awhile back we received some samples from TwinLuxe. And by samples we mean a complete shaving skincare system.
Now let me start off by saying that the TwinLuxe shaving skincare system isn’t for everyone. If you’re one of those guys who goes raw razor post-shower with no shaving cream or aftershave or nothing, this stuff isn’t for you. If you want a total shaving experience that encompasses multiple steps, the products that TwinLuxe offers can be quite awesome.
Just look at the list of stuff they offer:
- Renewing Face Wash & Scrub
- Booster Serum
- Smooth Shave Cream
- Instant Rescue Gel
- Soothing Face Balm
- Instant Energy Mist
- Daily Detox Face Wash & Mask
Let’s break down each of these bad boys so you can get a sense of what the TwinLuxe experience is all about:
Renewing Face Wash & Scrub
The first step to a clean shave is a clean face. The Renewing Face Wash & Scrub features microbeads and a softening agent that exfoliates the skin, smoothes away roughness, unclogs pores and removes dirt and oil to ensure a close shave.
Booster Serum
This stuff can be used before you shave, after you shave or anytime you want to revive your complexion. In the pre-shave routine, the serum adds an extra layer of protection that shields your skin from your blade. Post-shave, the serum acts as a renewing agent that helps fight irritation.
Smooth Shave Cream
The TwinLuxe Smooth Shave Cream is the type of cream that can only be applied with a proper badger brush. It’s a creamy, soothing, not-too-strong smelling cream that caters to all skin types.
Instant Rescue Gel
This stuff is awesome. Nicks and cuts are bound to happen, and if you have sensitive skin, you want to take steps to avoid razor burn and irritation. You can apply the gel to trouble spots or just finish off your shave with a heavy dose of this cooling green gel.
Soothing Face Balm
This non-oily aftershave balm hydrates and moisturizes as it coats your face in a nice glow. You get a smooth, soothing feel from a small amount, so one bottle will last you awhile.
Instant Energy Mist
The mist is applied before the face balm. It’s cooling spritz of botanical freshness that adds a thin, damp layer of moisturizer to your face before you apply the balm. The Instant Energy Mist can also be applied anytime you need a quick, rejuvenating shower splash to the face.
Daily Detox Face Wash & Mask
The Daily Detox Face Wash & Mask is another product that you can use at any time. It’s a 2-in-1 solution that fights bacteria and cleanses the pores. If you want you need a deeper face cleansing treatment, just put a bunch of this stuff on your face, let it chill for a few minutes and you got an at-home mask that’ll leave your face feeling all kinds of clean.
So as you can see, the TwinLuxe system is pretty intricate, but it’s still not that much of a chore. Guys who spend 2 minutes on a shave and don’t mind a little razor burn probably won’t be interested. But if you want to take care of your face, the pampering effect of this multi-step process is well worth the effort.
