Vikings Cut Randy Moss
Four games after trading away a third round pick for their former franchise superstar, the Vikings cut Randy Moss today. Anyone who saw Randy Moss’s post game press conference in New England knew that all was not right with Moss in Minnesota. Moss repeatedly said how he missed the Pats and went out of his way to praise head coach Bill Belichick. Here are some highlights from Moss’s post game rant:
- “I really haven’t had a chance to really talk to the guys, so this was no disrespect to the Minnesota Vikings and their organization. The captains — Wilfork, Tommy Boy, Mayo. Am I forgetting somebody? Kevin Faulk. Man, I miss them guys, man. I miss the team. It was hard for me to come here and play. Been an up-and-down rollercoaster emotionally all week. And then to be able to come in here and see those guys running plays that I know what they’re doing, and the success they had on the field, the running game — so, I kind of know what kind of feeling they have in their locker room, man, and I just want to be able to tell the guys that I miss the hell out of them. Every last helmet in that locker room, man.”
- “To the New England Patriots fans, that ovation at the end of the game — that really felt heartwarming. I think I actually shedded a tear for that. But like I said, man, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster this whole week. I tried to prepare. Tried to talk to the players and coaches about how this game was going to be played and a couple tendencies here, couple tendencies here. The bad part about it — you have six days to prepare for a team, and on the seventh day, that Sunday, meaning today, I guess they come over to me and say, ‘Dag, Moss, you was right about a couple plays and a couple schemes they were going to run.’ It hurts as a player that you put a lot of hard work in all week, and toward the end of the week, Sunday, when you get on the field, that’s when they acknowledge about the hard work you put in throughout the week. That’s actually a disappointment.”
- “Do I know what next season and the future’s going to bring? No, I do not. But all I can say is, man, it’s a lot of work that we leave on the field each day. It’s a lot of film study that we leave in that room each day. I know how hard these guys work here in New England, and (all) that I really tried to do is take what the best coach in football history has brought upon me, or the knowledge that he’s given me about the game of football, and I tried to just sprinkle it off to the guys the best way I know how.”
- “I don’t know how many more times I’m going to be up here in New England, but I’m going to leave the New England Patriots, Coach Belichick, man, with a salute, man. I love you guys, I miss you, I’m out.”
All that must not have gone over too well with Moss’s most recent former coach, Brad Childress. Moss acted like he was angling for a return to New England next season, and now he’s a Hall of Fame player with declining skills looking for his third team this season.
Someone will pick him up. The true winner in this situation is the New England Patriots. They took some heat for cutting the cord on Randy, but they basically turned a four game rental into a third round draft pick. I think it’s unlikely that Moss returns to New England, but the team has proven time and time again that it knows how to make the super-shrewd moves, so anything is possible.

Hanging Out With NASCAR Driver Martin Truex Jr and Pro Bass Fisherman Mike Iaconelli
Last month, the MANjr team went out to Charlotte, North Carolina for a pretty sweet Toyota event. Toyota Motorsports sponsors NASCAR racer Martin Truex, Jr. and pro bass fisherman Mike Iaconelli, and the two guys got together to teach each other a thing or two about their respective sports.
Martin Truex, Jr., who drives the No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Michael Waltrip Racing, is a two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion. His father, Martin Sr., also raced the No. 56 car in the Grand National Division. Truex Jr. began racing when he was 10 years old. During his first race for Michael Waltrip Racing, Truex earned a sixth place finish in the Daytona 500. He has 13 wins, 59 top tens and 10 poles in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and 1 win, 43 top tens and 5 poles in the Sprint Cup Series. Martin’s younger brother Ryan Truex competes for Michael Waltrip Racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Both brothers competed in a Nationwide Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway last month. Ryan finished in 37th place and Martin earned a second place finish.
Mike Iaconelli is ranked as one of the Top 20 Bass Anglers in the World. He hosts the show “City Limits Fishing with Mike Iaconelli” on the VERSUS Network. Iaconelli started fishing at an early age, and he parlayed an early interest in bass fishing into a solid career as a pro angler. Iaconelli was the 2003 Bassmaster Classic Champion, the 2006 Bass Angler of the Year and he earned a 2nd place finish at the 2009 Bassmaster Classic. While earning an Advertising and Public Relations degree from Rowan University, Iaconelli worked as a disc jockey. He collects vinyl records and he’s known for his trademark scream when he reels in a big fish.
So Martin Truex, Jr. met with Mike Iaconelli at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in order to teach him some pointers about NASCAR driving. Weather conditions didn’t permit the use of the No. 56 car, so Martin took Mike around the track a couple of times in the Toyota Hybrid Pace Car, which paced the Coke 600 in 2009. After a couple of laps around the track, Martin and Mike switched spots, and the professional angler tried his hand at racing.
After Iaconelli got to experience the fast track at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was off to Lake Norman. The weather cleared up and it turned out to be a gorgeous day on the lake. It was a definitely a change of pace from the racetrack as Mike showed Martin some pointers on how to catch bass. The pro bass fisherman caught quite a few before Truex reeled in his first catch. You could tell that both guys really enjoyed the experience of testing out another sport and getting an education from a seasoned pro.
It was fun hanging out with Martin and Mike. Both guys displayed a true passion for the sports they grew up loving. A good time was had by all, just check out the video highlights of the day’s events:
The entire MANjr team has a new appreciation for bait and NASCAR turns. Special thanks to Martin, Mike and everyone from Toyota Motorsports for letting us tag along in Charlotte!

REPLAY Track – We Can Do It Now – Common, Jennifer Hudson, Lupe Fiasco and No I.D.
rusbankinfo.ru
Back in September, the MANjr Team went out to Chicago to cover the Gatorade REPLAY Season 3 matchup between Brother Rice and Bloom Township. The Replay rematch of the 2000 high school basketball sectional battle was an awesome game. We got to interview Carlos Boozer and Dwight Howard and we got to witness one of the most intense basketball games any of us has ever seen.
The REPLAY Season 3 documentary is going to air on FSN on November 7. In preparation for the premier, Gatorade got together with Common, Jennifer Hudson, Lupe Fiasco and No I.D. to create an original REPLAY song called “We Can Do It Now.” You can download the song for free at the REPLAY website. Here’s some behind the scenes studio footage of this Chicago-style collaboration:

Psychic World Cup Predicting Machine Paul the Octopus Dead at Age 2.5
Paul, the psychic Octopus who’s stunning accuracy in picking World Cup games earned him global fame this past summer, died on Tuesday at the tender octopus age of two and a half. Actually, two and half years is a long time for an octopus to live, and Paul lived a life that most cephalopod molluscs only dream of.
Paul the Octopus became an international star after correctly picking all seven of Germany’s 2010 World Cup matches. He also accurately predicted the result of the final. This modern-day Nostradoctopus displayed 100 percent accuracy during the tournament. Paul also correctly picked four of Germany’s six matches in the UEFA Euro 2008 tourney.
Before each Germany match, Paul would be presented with two plastic cases. Each case featured a flag of two competing countries and each case contained a tasty mussel. Whatever plastic box Paul swam to would be the team that prevailed on the pitch. Bitter Germans threatened to eat Paul after he picked Spain to beat Germany in the semi-finals. Paul the Octopus also received death threats after picking Spain to beat the Netherlands in the final.
Rest in peace you crazy psychic Octopus.

2010 World Series Schedule, TV Coverage and Matchups
This year’s World Series was initially hyped up to be a rematch of the Yankees-Phillies championship series from last year, but the Rangers and the Giants had different ideas. Texas and San Francisco start the battle this Wednesday. Here’s a look at the complete 2010 World Series schedule:
- Game 1 TEX @ SF Wed, Oct. 27 at 7:30 PM
- Game 2 TEX @ SF Thu, Oct. 28 at 7:30 PM
- Game 3 SF @ TEX Sat, Oct. 30 at 6:30 PM
- Game 4 SF @ TEX Sun, Oct. 31 at 8:00 PM
- Game 5 SF @ TEX Mon, Nov. 1 at 7:30 PM
- Game 6 TEX @ SF Wed, Nov. 3 at 7:30 PM
- Game 7 TEX @ SF Thu, Nov. 4 at 7:30 PM
Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum are scheduled to duel it out in Game 1. Lee has been lights out lately, and he’s never lost a game in the postseason. In eight career playoff starts, Lee’s gone 7-0 with a 1.26 ERA. Lincecum has never pitched against the Rangers. He finished 16-10 with a 3.43 ERA this season. Lincecum struggled big time in August (0-5 with an ERA of 7.82), but the long-haired righty finished the season strong in September and October (5-1 with a 1.94 ERA). Should be a good battle.
Fox and TBS both reported ratings increases for the League Championship Series this year. Those year-over-year TV ratings bumps should take a hit once the series gets underway.
The scheduling for Game 4 will be interesting. The World Series will be up against a Sunday night football game that features the Pittsburgh Steelers traveling to New Orleans to take on the defending Super Bowl champs. I’m no psychic, but no matter how the 2010 World Series schedule shakes out, more people will tune-in to see a quality NFL matchup over a pivotal postseason baseball game, that’s for damn sure.
